Farm Stay East AngliaA Day Out in and around Saffron WaldenThis ancient town takes its name from the Saffron Crocus, which grew here in the 16th C. Once a centre for wool production, the wealth generated has left many lovely timbered framed buildings. Saffron Walden, with its elegant spire, is one of the largest in Essex.
Saffron Walden Museum is a friendly family-sized museum, of local history, decorative arts, archaeology and natural history.
Nearby Audley End House and Park (English Heritage) is one of England’s grandest stately homes. With its lavish interiors and 19th C parterre garden it really is a lovely place to visit and relax. There is also a beautiful Elysian Garden cascade. For antique lovers Debden Antiques has large collection of fine antiques for the home and garden, displayed in a magnificent 17th C Essex Barn.
